City Landed a First top-Flight Title For 44 Years English Premier League

City landed a first top-flight title for 44 years playing the sort of football Blues’ fans had barely dreamed possible. With no league title since 1968, it was fitting that Roberto Mancini’s men ended the wait playing a brand of football that befits the memory of the great Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison – the managerial dream team who last brought the coveted trophy home. Records have tumbled along the way with the class of 2011/12 setting standards that will beg the question – is this the greatest City team of all-time?

Undoubtedly the foundation for the Premier League triumph was set at the Etihad Stadium, where the Blues took an incredible 55 points out of a possible 57 – only Chelsea and Manchester United can claim to equal that record and no club has bettered it. City also posted a new Premier League record back in March after clocking up 20 successive home PL wins, before Sunderland ended the run back in March with a 3-3 draw.

The 52 home goals scored prior to QPR’s visit was also a new Club record, beating the previous record of 41 set in 2009/10. With ten wins on the road this season, City have set yet another a new club record wins away from home, beating the previous record with the 2-0 win secured at Newcastle last Sunday.

This is – stating the obvious –City’s highest in the Premier League finish, beating the third place set last season
The City boss’ win rate of 59.48%, is the best ever, narrowly beating Tom Maley’s 59.33% set 110 years ago!

Finally, Mancini’s side have smashed the previous Club record of 71 Premier League points by 18 have scored the most goals in a season during the Premier League era, beating the 73 goals tally set in 2009/10. With four City players nominated for the PFA Player of the Year and Sergio Aguero nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year last month, Vincent Kompany voted Barclays Player of the Season and Joe Hart winning the Premier League Golden Glove award, it’s been an incredible campaign for the Blues, the players and the City fans. And now we go into the 2012/13 season as defending Premier League champions proving that dreams do come true…
