Salvage Company Micoperi, in charge of the operation to remove the half-submerged wreck of the costa Concordia Giglio Island, said on Tuesday that the refloating of the ship will be delayed until spring 2013. The 951 foot long cruise liner capsized after hitting rocks on January 13th. At least 30 people died and two are still unaccounted for. The cost of the operation is expected to be at least
$300 million and will be the first time a salvage operation of this size has ever taken place. The vessel is expected to be stabilized to prevent it shifting down the rocky ledge it is resting on and plunging into the deep waters of the surrounding marine reserve. The wreck that looms over Giglio Island hasn't detrimentally affected the tourist trade. Many tourists are taking day trips to see the ship and take a dip in the sea close by
